Stacy Sampen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Morehead State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Double Major in Sports Performance, and a Minor in Nutrition. At Morehead State University, she was a student athlete on the volleyball team. She currently runs a Sport Performance Training Center that provides performance training for athletes, adults, nutrition and volleyball lessons.
Her husband owns Samps Hack Shack (which is a baseball and softball organization) and the Cane's MW Baseball Organization, which means she and her husband get to spend a lot of hours mentoring the youth, which they absolutely love and they have big plans to grow their business to help even more teens! Stacy has two fur babies named Cookie and Blu and is obsessed with both of them! She loves to be able to hangout with friends and family in her downtime.
Listen in and watch for how crippling comparison was to Stacy. And if there are any coaches out there listening to this. I especially want to remind you of amount of power you wield in your players’ lives. Stacy was able to break free from the trap of comparison and her past pain fuels her passion to create a different, more empowering experience for the athletes she gets to mentor and help thrive.

How the distorted mindset started:
- injury & self doubt
- fear of tearing ACL again
- everyone telling her she had big shoes to fill to replace last person
- pressure to perform & everything was out of her control
- felt shame when stats weren't great & she became the scapegoat
- went from struggling with anorexia to struggling with binge eating
How did mindset shift?
- took break/RESET
- went back home/safe space/more relaxed place
- met with a therapist
- stop caring what everyone thought of her
- set boundaries & stood up for her needs in a respectful way
- recognize the perfectionist voice will always be there- get better at identifying when it is talking and be the boss of your brain.
- gratitude journaling
- physical cue to shift focus (write it on your wrist)
- get enough sleep
- focused on what brought her joy/let go of trying to please everyone
A few takeaways:
- social media is a source of a lot of triggering images and misinformation-be choosey about who you follow & what voices you allow in your head
- get professional help-don't try to do it alone
- don't make comments (even if well intended) about people's appearances
- it's important to stand up for yourself
- when you are extreme in anything you lose the joy of everything
- look at people who you really want to aspire to becom
